Are You In The Right Job?
It’s always good to take the time every couple of years to check in with yourself to make sure that you are in the right field and still doing a job that you enjoy.
- Do you still go home with a sense of satisfaction after working?
- Does your job allow you to do what you do best every day?
- Is the culture of the organization in line with your value system and philosophy?
Any of these areas can be problematic from causing you to under-perform to a general bad feelings about your job and/or coworkers.
I found this interesting Career Planner Quiz after it was discussed on my local news the other day. It’s free to try and I was actually kind of surprised at how on-point it was about me. Here are my results.

People with Blue interests like activities that allow them to be creative. This can be through more traditional visual arts, writing or musical pursuits although not limited to these. The creativity is often expressed in thinking of new ideas or strategies that can have a broad range of applications. Blue interests often like thinking about the future and planning for long term benefits. Hobbies include: performing or listening to music, attending theater, story telling, journaling, decorative arts, painting. Career choice often are: Editor, Journalist, Teacher, Strategic Planner, Consultant, Performing Arts, Marketing, Communications, Research and Development.

People with Red strengths are really good at making quick decisions and then jumping to action. They are objective about people and good at mobilizing teams to get the job done. They are logical when solving problems and work well in high pressure situations. They are friendly when they interact with others while staying focused on the business at hand.
After you take the Career Planner Quiz be sure to come back and tell us if your results seem to be in-line with how you see yourself, and the job you are currently working.

My results were yellow across the board.
Your interests:
People with Yellow interests like activities that allow them to gather information and then analyze it. They like to create systems that organize their world so that there is a process that governs all activity. People with yellow interests enjoy spending their time managing the details that enable people and organizations function seamlessly. Hobbies may include: record keeping, statistician for sports team, personal investment management, puzzles, home computer. Career choices often are: Accountant, Compliance Officer, Historian, Financial Management, Administration, Auditor, Researcher, Office Management, Computer Science.
Your Style:
People with Yellow strengths are good at managing details and creating sophisticated processes that allow them to get complex work done. Once a game plan has been put in place, it is implemented. Their decisions are based on facts and carefully reasoned. When working with other people, they are fair and democratic and always can be counted on to deliver what they commit to.
Uh…yeah…I can see where they’re coming from, but at the same time this felt like reading my horoscope and trying to make it fit, rather than that overwhelming feeling that YES they know what I am good at!
Thanks for the link, it was a fun quiz.

I’m solid blue. Interesting to think about. Have you ever done the JobFox Work Type assessments? I felt those were pretty accurate.

Oh sure! If you register as a “job seeker” and set up your page at http://www.jobfox.com, you can take a few assessments that are meant to give you a sense of your “people type” and “task type”. Here’s my Jobfox page:

Too funny. I have taken a number of these assessments and normally I wonder who they were thinking about when they developed the schema for determining the answers. This one, however vague, was in line with my interests and current character. I am interested in Blue, however have a style of yellow. I like this. Noticed some of the jobfox comments. I have not done this yet but will try some. Thanks for sharing.

I scored Yellow in interests and Blue in Style.
I don’t know how good a fit this can be. Given the opportunity, my answer to many of the choices on the quiz would be - “Dear Lord, neither of the above!”
