Ever Think About What You Think About?

by Darlene McDaniel on August 1st, 2007

Motivation by definition means the psychological feature that moves a person to action toward a desired goal; the reason for the action; that which gives purpose and direction to behavior.

What motivates you? What moves you to action or inaction? When you get stuck what do you do? As I stated yesterday, Motivation in my estimation is something that either you have or don’t. I personally believe that each and every person has a little switch on the inside of themself and we choose to turn it on or we guard it and leave it off.

According to John Wesley’s article, How to Motivate Yourself, it is a struggle for people to remain motivated. I believe that struggle has a lot to do with the way we think.

brain-power.bmpHave you ever stopped to think about what you are thinking about? It is an interesting concept, and most people don’t do it. I never thought about it until about 6 months ago or so. What you invest your time thinking about will impact your behavior in any given situation, including an interview.

If you think negative thoughts such as, “I’m not going to get this job?” You probably won’t get the job. But if you think a more positive thought, like “I am going to have a great interview!” The likelihood of you nailing the interview go up exponetially. Please understand that your preparation will help you in this arena. If you haven’t invested time in preparation, you can declare to the winds you will have a great interview and I will question your thinking. That aside, what you think about has a direct correlation with how you respond and behave throughout your behavior.
