Formula for Luck?
The Business Channel at B5 media worked together to put together our them for the month of March - LUCK!What an interesting word. In any case, Ron Elizondo wrote a very interesting post I thought would be good to share with you. He put together an equation for Luck.
Luck = Work+Risk+Motivation+Opportunities
For the record, I don’t believe in Luck. I believe it is all about hard work.So let’s take a look at this equation that Ron put together. I believe that for each of you to be successful in the hiring process, you need all for components of this equation. If you believe you net Luck! Great! But for the purposes of this blog and my desire to assist you with getting that next opportunity, let me propose to you that if you add
Work+ Risk + Motivation + Opportunities;
you may find that you will get the job you are looking for nine times out of ten. Here are my thoughts about these four components of Ron’s equation:
Work - This component requires a desire on your part to invest in the job that your currently doing. How hard do you work? How hard are you willing to work? Are you willing to go above and beyond the call of duty or do you find every opportunity to get out of work.
Risk - This component will move you out of your comfort zone. Are you willing to risk making a mistake in order to learn a new skill or to sharpen a skill? Are you willing to take a lateral move or even a demotion if it will assist you with getting a promotion down the road?
Motivation - This is an internal issue. Either you are motivated or you are not. Either way, no one can motivate you to perform at a high level. No one. is that thing on the inside of you that pushes you to work through fatigue, frustration, stress, deadlines in order to complete the job.
Opportunities - You create opportunities for yourself when you are willing to work hard, risk and when you are motivated to do a good job no matter who you work for, no matter how hard the job may be and no matter what else is going on around you. I do believe that whatever you invest in your current job is a direct correlation to the opportunities that will come your way.
Whether you agree with my take on Ron Elizondo’s formula, I absolutely believe that if you have a healty dose of all four components, you will have no problem getting the jobs you want.
