How Social Networking Helped One Artist/Garden Designer
Carolyn is an Artist/Garden Designer in Chicago who has offered to share how social networking helps in her career.
Although I had been an artist all my life, I never thought seriously of it as a career until my neighbor and fellow artist encouraged me to volunteer for an artist’s coalition and get involved in the world of art.
There I met many emerging and established artists who really encouraged me to give it a try as a career. Networking with them gave me the courage to begin life as an artist at age 55.
My efforts were met with success and I had two very good shows my first year, which is quite an accomplishment for an emerging artist.
I do my paintings in the winter and from Spring to Fall, I design and install gardens. Again, although I had gardened from a very early age and knew a lot about plants, I never considered it as a career until my personal garden won the most creative award in The Chicago Tribune.
Social networking also helped my garden design business. I got a part-time job at a large garden center and became acquainted with many other garden and landscape designers. They, too have encouraged and helped me along the way.
Another social network I enjoy is through my garden blog where I’ve come into contact with many wonderful people. I was very fortunate to receive Google’s Blogger Blog of Note designation a few months ago and welcomed over 40,000 visitors in one week to my blog.
