Keep Your MySpace Nose Clean
MySpace has got to be the biggest Internet hit since, well, ever! But it’s not just about socializing anymore. MySpace is also in the job listing business. Their job area is powered by Simply Hired. And, sure you can just go straight to Simply Hired, but MySpace is so much more fun, right? And there’s a good chance you are on the site throughout the day anyway, so why not take advantage?
With uber popular sites like MySpace in the business of helping people get jobs, it’s a lot more likely that your future boss may check out your MySpace profile. Of course social sites like these are meant to be a place where you can let your inner freakazoid out, but be aware and responsible when you choose content for your profile.
The same rule should be applied to everything that your name is associated with online. In 2008 a huge percentage of hiring managers will be googling you before they call you in for that interview. And the chance of them discovering your MySpace profile is pretty high, if they try. So have fun with your MySpace friends, but keep in mind that anybody from your potential next boss to your grandma can see them, so try to be professional.
And, if you just can’t contain yourself, then I’d suggest you go undercover by making sure that your account isn’t identifiable under your proper full name.
