Here is Part 2 of my thoughts on Denise Grier’s article, Five Steps to A Successful Interview! For those of you new to my blog, I love to pull out coachable moments or lessons learned when sharing other people’s writings on my site.
Lessons Learned from Five Steps to A Successful Interview! 
BE ON TIME!
2. Be on Time: Let me repeat this tip - BE ON TIME! Punctuality is tantamount. If you can’t make it to the interview on time how can you make it to work on time? This is a critical component to the interview process. You are pretty much dead in the water if you show up late for an interview. BE ON TIME!
According to Marvin Walberg of Scripps Howard News Service, “an interview, or any meeting related to job seeking, is not a social engagement where it is socially acceptable, or even expected, to be a little late. This is business - important business - and your first impression is indelible.
Ok, so we have established that it is never acceptable to be late, at all, for a job interview. Let’s take it one more step. Be early. In fact, be 10 to 15 minutes early. Why? Because you will probably be required to complete an application _ neatly _ and possibly take employment tests. Company officials are counting on you being on time, and have arranged other interviews accordingly, so reduce their stress a little by being early. That will help you make a favorable first impression.” BE ON TIME!
First impressions are lasting and your tardiness means you will definitely not get this job opportunity.
Just a few reasons why people are late:
Traffic problems, car problems, getting lost, getting caught in another meeting or at work, problems with children, or any other GOOD reason for being late is not good enough to give you a pass. Either plan ahead of time or schedule the interview when nothing will get in your way of getting there on time. There is no gray area in the hiring process.
BE ON TIME!
