On a Personal Note - Digital Employment
In the spirit of my technology theme this month, I thought I would finish this month’s series with various post about online employment. The idea came after reading a post by Alpha over at Make Money Online - Digital Employment: 7 Ways to Look for Online Jobs. This is an excellent post. Click to read!
Anyway, to kick off this series of post and to round out this month, I thought I would share on a personal note, how I came to do this thing called blogging. In my opinion, blogging is a phenomenal way to work online.
For me blogging began with a desire to understand what blogging was all about. Early last year I began hearing the term on the cable news channels. No one ever explained what blogging is, but I kept hearing about it. Eventually I heard a newscaster talk about starting one and that seemed curious to me. How do you start a blog? Don’t you need permission? No one seemed to answer that for me either.
Anyway, I wanted to create a secondary income stream for myself. And I love to write. The desire to write was in me with no outlet or expression other than journalling. Journalling was not enough. In my effort to find freelance writing opportunities, I began to search the world wide web. I found freelancejobsearch.com.
There was a blogging organization looking for bloggers. I attempted to apply, but I couldn’t get through because they had an overwhelming response and they were no longer accepting applicatons. So I went away. At that point I was determined to find someone to pay me for the knowledge I had to share.
Approximately one month later, I did a Google search on paid bloggers. And B5media popped up as the first or second choice. I selected it because of the name and found out they were looking for Business Channel bloggers and I knew I had found a potential opportunity. After writing a guest post, Identifying Good Customer Service Candidates for Doug Hanna, the Business Channel Editor at Serviceuntitled, I was given an opportunity to write my own blog. Here I am 6 months later, loving it and building relationships with a new community of people.
