S-E-C-R-E-T-S of Success
What does success mean to you? This is an open-ended question and I recommend you prepare your answer ahead of time. Is there a right answer for this tough interview question? Not really because your definition of success and my definition of success and their definition of success will be different. Make sure that your answer is focused and not too general. You can include personal and professional examples in your answer.
Make sure in your preparation you have a specific accomplishment that helps you define success. This is a great "free ball" question. This question gives you the opportunity to "toot your horn." Tell them something wonderful about your life accomplishments. Here is a framework for you to communicate your answer. "Success is ________________________ (you fill in the blank). For example, two years ago (or whatever the time frame is for you)…."
Here is some criteria for Success I found in the Five O’Clock Club Job Search Workbook. It’s great! Use it - It will help you become more successful.
S - Sense of Purpose - Written Goals
E - Excellence - Commitment for Being the Best At Whatever You Do
C - Contribution
R - Responsibility For Your Actions
E - Effort (I like to call it sweat equity)
T - Time Management
S - Stay with it! Don’t Quit!
