Season 7 - The Apprentice - Week 9
Last Thursday’s episode of The Apprentice was a little sad. Tito was fired, but I am getting a little ahead of myself. The task this week partnered two strong business brands, Dial Soap and Redbook.
Task: To create a 4-page photo essay or photo layout that will promote Dial Nourishing Yogurt Body Wash. Each team would be judged on three criteria: creativity, integration of the brand, overall message and content. Each was also given a photographer and a full photo studio to complete their task.
Tito stepped up or was pushed up to be the project manager for Empresario. Carol stepped up for Hydra.
Hydra
Carol understood that the executive meeting was critical to their success. Capturing the Redbook reader. The average age of the reader is 37 years old. Taste and good judgment are always important. Carol’s objective with this task was to be very simple, very sexy, very beautiful. Hydra was focused on telling a story using great moments in a woman’s life.
Empresario
Redbook loves Trace Atkins. The biggest problem with Empresario was that Tito did not lead his team. He was nervous. In the end, when the critical decisions needed to be made, Tito missed it. He was afraid to push the envelope for the photo essay and in the end, it cost the team and Tito was fired.
Coachable Moments:
1. If you are the leader, lead
2. When you have a tough decision, ask for feedback and then make a decision
3. Playing it safe doesn’t usually work in business - Risk taking is part of business
4. Indecisiveness will kill you in business
5. Know your strengths and weaknesses - leverage your strengths, minimize your weaknesses by utilizing others on your team
