“You’re Fired”, What Will They Say About You?
Every time I receive a comment about being fired, nine times out of ten, the person asks me “what can my employer say about me? Can they give the details of my termination?”
Most employers are very careful about what they say when giving a reference regarding an employee especially one that has been terminated. My recommendation to you is to confirm with the employer what their policy is on employee references. They have one - you need to know what it is. Ask Human Resource Manager/Director what their policy is on giving reference checks.
Some employers only share salary, dates of employment and whether you are rehirable. Others will share everything and anything they are asked. Go back to the employer and ask them what they do. Most employers will tell you. Whatever you do, don’t omit them from your applications or resume. Once you know what they will do, it should give you peace of mind for future interviews, and job offers.
